“Why would I need drywall to help with stormwater?” This is a question commonly asked when I tell people what I do for a living. After clarifying that it’s not drywall like you find in your home but rather a drywell, a stormwater control measure used for hundreds of years, I still get curious looks. In our world at Torrent Resources, stormwater infiltration just makes sense. Why would we throw away such a valuable resource as rain when a great deal of the country is in severe drought conditions?
When it comes to a forward thinking attitude regarding stormwater, Arizona is second to none. The state has taken a progressive stance towards reuse of this valuable resource since the 1970s. And now, the rest of the country is taking notice.
Since 1972, Torrent Resources has been the leader and chief innovator in deep stormwater infiltration. Our MaxWell drywells have been installed in numerous Western states with more than 75,000 MaxWell drywells in Arizona and California alone. States such as Oregon and Washington have utilized drywells for many years, but their designs lack the pre-treatment capabilities of the MaxWell drywell. Due to our ability to combine pre-treatment with infiltration, Oregon and Washington and many other states are looking to utilize our technology.
I must admit that I still get odd looks when I try to explain what we do at Torrent Resources to some family and friends. But when talking to industry peers, there is no longer confusion about what a drywell is and why it’s such a big part of the future of Green and LID infrastructure.
Torrent Resources offers Lunch and Learn courses to help design engineers and municipalities better understand how to incorporate MaxWell drywells into their site design. While Arizona and California remain key markets for drywell use, we perform presentations in Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. And as of last month, add Ohio to the list. Our product presentation qualifies for 1.5 PDH Credits as well as LEED credits. Click here to schedule a presentation for your design or regulatory team.
