Though it’s common to see a stray animal running around the Phoenix Metro area from time to time, what may be a surprise is just how many there are. According to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) the number of animals impounded in 2013 was 42,462, which is down from 54,525 in 2010. It’s obviously great that the numbers are declining, but many animals are still being put down because there are not enough good homes to adopt or foster them.
One lucky, little dog showed up at the office of Torrent Resources on Monday, April 20, 2015 and found a lot more than just a safe place to escape the elements, traffic, and predators…he hit the jackpot in the doggy lottery. To be clear, it wasn’t an actual lottery ticket, but it was just as valuable. To set the stage for this canine rags to riches story, the Torrent office lies in a heavily industrial part of south Phoenix filled with contractors, landfills, junk yards, and waste haulers. To paint the picture further, the day was hot and the little dog was filthy, skinny, and covered with ticks.
Up until that April day, the little dog had not much going for him; however, it is well known that winning a jackpot can change a life. Well, this story is no different and by Wednesday, this little pooch emerged from the veterinarian’s office cleaner, healthier, and happier. Besides a checkup, he got himself a haircut, bath, shots, and a new name. What name? Torrent, of course. Since then, Torrent has been nurtured and loved…even spoiled. With all he has received, Torrent is an amazing giver and he has brought unbelievable love and happiness to a blended family of 5 that feels like they hit the doggy lottery jackpot too.
