Since 1974, over 50,000 patented MaxWell Systems have proven their value as a cost-effective solution in a wide variety of drainage applications. They are accepted by state and municipal agencies and are a standard detail in numerous drainage manuals.

Industry research, together with the company’s own experience, has shown that initial storm drainage flows have the greatest impact on system performance and can quickly cut short a system’s life by clogging the soils meant to transmit the water. This “first flush” occurs during the first few minutes of runoff and carries the majority of sediment and debris. As a result, the effect on most drainage systems is rigorous maintenance and premature failure.

The introduction of the MaxWell brought an end to life-expectancy problems and minimized the need for maintenance. Preliminary treatment in all MaxWells is provided through collection and separation in a deep, large volume settling chamber. PureFlo Debris Shields ensure containment by trapping floating debris and pavement oils. The shields are equipped with a screen to filter suspended matter and are vented to prevent siphoning of floating debris.

Each chamber is equipped with an absorbent sponge to promptly remove pavement oils. These floating pillow-like devices are 100% water repellent and literally wick petrochemical compounds from the water. Each sponge has a capacity of over 120 ounces to accommodate effective, long-term treatment. The absorbent is completely inert and will safely remove rainbow sheens, which are typically one molecule thick.

All MaxWell Systems include bolted, theft-resistant, cast iron gratings and covers as standard security features. Special inset casting which are resistant to loosening from accidental impact are available for use in landscaped applications. Machined mating surfaces and “Storm Water Only” working are standard.

Equally important to long life and performance is the care taken in drilling the drywell and installing the components. At least ten feet of penetration with a large, 4-foot diameter hole into the permeable clay-free sand, gravel and cobbles is vital. Torrent’s specially designed, “crowd”-equipped drilling rigs get through the difficult cemented soils to reach clean drainage soils at depths up to 180 feet. Additionally, the firm’s proprietary techniques assure that soils will stay clean from the drilling operation through normal well operation.
